The Nike Air Force 1 debuted in 1982 under the name 'Air Force' referring to Air Force One, the President’s plane of the United States. The shoe was designed by Bruce Kilgore, one of the very first employees of the Nike company. New to basketball at that time, Nike asked him to create a fresh new basketball silhouette to lead the hoops category. Originally released in its high-top design, the Nike Air Force 1 brought for the first time the Air technology into a basketball shoe. Nike-Air Mid Sole, Concentric Circle Outsole, Variable width lacing system & more, everything was designed with the intention to make athletes lives better.

One year later in 1983, the Air Force 1 Low was introduced as a lifestyle alternative. Unfortunately, Nike planned to discontinue the model in 1984. The sneakerheads on the streets were still asking for it, looking for more colorways. At the time, bringing back an old shoe that was out of production made no sense for a brand. Back by popular demand (especially thanks to Baltimore City), Nike brought back the Air Force 1 in 1986 redefining the whole idea of discontinuing shoes. They just created the concept of 'Retroing'. From this reissue, the Air Force 1 was updated several times including the major replacement of the mesh panel to the sidewall by a full leather upper. The white-on-white colorway appeared during the early 90's taking the silhouette to another level. The Women's sizing was introduced by Nike in 2001. In the 2000's, the number of collaborations exploded & at the same time, the fans became able to create their own via NikeiD. From the court to the streets, the Nike Air Force 1 is definitely one of the most iconic sneakers of all time.
