AFEW and Mizuno present "OAG3," a futuristic reimagining of the MXR silhouette exploring interstellar travel between Earth and the Earth-like celestial body OAG3. This exclusive collaboration blends space exploration conceptualism with Mizuno's 2000s retro running heritage, featuring advanced materials and rugged construction designed for otherworldly conditions.
Design & Inspiration
The MXR reflects Mizuno's desire to bring back 2000s retro running experience as extension of the globally recognized Wave Rider 10. The name derives from Maximizer line—running series offered for years in Japan's domestic market delivering Mizuno quality to wide audiences. AFEW's "OAG3" iteration reinterprets this Y2K athletics aesthetic through futuristic, multi-layered lens inspired by space travel and near-future worlds where technology and evolution intertwine. The conceptual narrative suggests Mizuno and AFEW jointly engineered this shoe for interstellar travel—legend claims the prototype was lost on OAG3 following development and testing phase. Fog/TigersEye/DesertPalm colorway draws from desert landscapes where communities extend across horizontal planes before building upward, translating familiar elements into futuristic visual language. Custom toe box paneling, redesigned tongue, additional quick-lacing system, heel bubble detailing, custom midsole branding, and themed insole artwork distinguish this collaboration. Asymmetrical Runbird logos switch between medial and lateral sides creating unique visual identity.
Comfort & Performance
Built upon MXR entry-level tooling, the "OAG3" maintains high level of quality and technicity true to Mizuno essence. Updated panels and advanced materials create rugged construction designed to withstand harsh, unforgiving conditions. The quick-lacing system enhances functionality while maintaining sleek profile. Multiple rubber parts throughout tooling allow technical color blocking with high-level details. Despite extensive rework, the shoe remains firmly rooted in original MXR DNA—airy mesh combined with synthetic overlays, EVA midsole providing soft responsive cushioning, eyestay prints, debossed quarters, and custom tapes enriching detail work. The silhouette emphasizes both performance and lifestyle appeal, bridging Mizuno's sporting heritage with contemporary streetwear.
