Kinesiology tape reimagined as architectural footwear design. The ASICS Hyper Taping x Issey Miyake launches the new Issey Miyake Foot sub-brand—a joint footwear development project studying the human foot to create unexplored footwear that brings new perspectives to everyday life.

Design & Inspiration

The Hyper Taping represents Issey Miyake's first collaboration with ASICS, debuting during the IM Men spring 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week. Developed through months of experimentation and testing at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science, the silhouette reimagines athletic kinesiology tape as an elastic wraparound fastening system that stabilizes the foot with a single intuitive motion—replacing traditional laces entirely.

The monochromatic black colorway creates a sleek, minimalist aesthetic rooted in functional design. The iconic ASICS Stripes—originally designed in 1966 with the "Limber Leather" model to protect the Achilles tendon and enhance upper strength—are reconstructed into the Hyper Taping concept, transforming them into elastic straps inspired by athletic taping. Mesh and synthetic leather layers combine across the upper, nodding to ASICS' Sportstyle heritage while introducing a sharper, more expressive visual language. Co-branding throughout reinforces the partnership between Miyake Design Studio and ASICS.

Comfort & Performance

A newly engineered last widens the originally tight wrestling outsole shape, creating a slim wrestling-inspired outsole designed to support natural movement and all-day comfort. The sole features multidirectional herringbone tread inspired by gecko foot structure, offering strong grip performance with striking visual expression. A responsive SpEVA midsole pairs with an Ortholite sockliner and redesigned comfort insole to deliver support with thin sole design. Cushioned tongue wings and finely adjusted contact around the ankle ensure optimal fit.
