Tribal tattoos meet Y2K futurism. The New Balance ABZORB 2000 "Liquid Metal Black Metallic" ditches the model's original curvy lines for jagged high-gloss TPU cutouts that look straight out of 2000s body art—a bold departure designed by Yue Wu that transforms the tech runner into pure cyber-noir.
Design & Inspiration
Launched in June 2025, the ABZORB 2000 channels millennial-era optimism when designers imagined futuristic aesthetics through experimental materials and visible cushioning tech. The "Liquid Metal Black Metallic" colorway takes this Y2K DNA further with a complete upper redesign.
Black breathable mesh forms the base, overtaken by high-gloss black metallic TPU panels featuring sharp, angular cutouts that evoke tribal tattoo aesthetics and early cyberart. These jagged overlays wrap across the toe, lateral sides, and quarter panels, creating constant visual movement even when static. The signature lateral "N" logo receives the same sharp treatment with pointed edges extending outward. Dark silver metallic accents highlight structural elements, while the segmented ABZORB midsole maintains the model's chunky, period-accurate profile.
Comfort & Performance
The full-length ABZORB midsole combines lightweight foam with visible ABZORB SBS pods for firm, stable cushioning designed for long-distance comfort rather than bouncy responsiveness. A Stability Web shank provides midfoot support and torsional rigidity, while the segmented outsole with strategic flex grooves ensures smooth transitions and confident traction for all-day urban wear.
