New Balance’s deconstructed “Protection Pack” brings back the cult-favorite 2002R in a tonal grey 'Rain Cloud' edition, blending Y2K running DNA with rugged, raw-edge styling.

This special edition of the 2002R silhouette showcases an upper which layers breathable grey mesh with rough-cut suede panels that appear intentionally distressed, evoking an unfinished, tactile aesthetic. Reflective 'N' branding adds contrast and visibility, while the sun-bleached midsole evokes vintage cool. Subtle mint-green ABZORB pods peek beneath the sculpted sole, nodding to the line’s cushioning tech and adding a splash of unexpected color.

Equipped with ABZORB cushioning and N‑ERGY outsole tech, this edition delivers resilient shock absorption and responsive bounce. The Stability Web shank supports arch and midfoot control, while the layered mesh-suede upper ensures breathability and structure. It balances technical runner heritage with street-ready comfort.

Originally dropped in July 2021, the New Balance 2002R “Rain Cloud” returned as part of the 2025 “Protection Pack” re-release, launching in Europe on June 4, 2025, followed shortly by a global drop on July 1st at 170€/150£.
