Technical Description
The Nike Kobe 11 Elite Protro "Fade to Black" (style code IM4260-001) returns in a Black / Metallic Gold colorway that stays true to the original 2016 release. The upper is built from a blacked-out mesh construction with subtle tonal texture shifts, sitting on a matching semi-transparent black midsole that preserves the sleek, stealth profile of the original. Metallic gold Swooshes dominate the side panels, while a gold XI logo stamps the insoles. On the left heel tab, four embroidered gold lines honor Kobe's legendary Achilles recovery — the injury that should have ended his career but didn't. On the right heel, "4.13.16" is embroidered in gold, marking the exact date of his final NBA game. "XX" branding nods to the 20 seasons Bryant played in the league. The Protro update integrates drop-in React insoles for modern court performance, and a commemorative card telling the full story of the "Fade to Black" collection ships with each pair.
Storytelling
On April 13, 2016, Kobe Bryant walked into Staples Center for the last time and dropped 60 points on the Utah Jazz. On his feet: a blacked-out pair of Kobe 11 Elite Lows — the final shoe of the "Fade to Black" series, a Nike Basketball collection that had counted down his signature line in reverse through the farewell season. The Kobe 11 was the closing chapter of that tribute, worn on the most Kobe night imaginable. These shoes weren't just worn that night. They became it.
Mamba Day 2026 — 10 Years Later
April 13, 2026 marks exactly one decade since Kobe's farewell performance, and Nike is treating it as the landmark it deserves. The "Fade to Black" Kobe 11 Elite Protro drops on that exact date alongside the Kobe 11 EM Protro "Mamba Day" (IU4902-900) — two releases, one occasion, ten years of weight behind it. Both are available via SNKRS and select Nike Basketball retailers. All authorized shops carrying the Kobe 11 Elite Protro "Fade to Black" are listed below.
