About this product

Technical Description

The Women's Nike Rift 2 "Kenya" is a 2026 retro of the 2002 update to Nike's iconic split-toe running silhouette. Built on a fuller, more structured frame than the original 1996 Air Rift, the Rift 2 introduces a bootie-like interior for a snug fit and a thicker, more supportive sole unit — all while preserving the tabi-inspired toe split that defines the line. The upper combines a flexible mesh base with pocked, textured synthetic overlays across the side panels — a futuristic detail that links the Rift 2 to other early 2000s Nike women's silhouettes like the Air SuperFly. The Black / Team Dark Green / Fire Red colorway directly references the Kenyan flag: a blacked-out base with Dark Green on the lining and accents, and Fire Red hitting the forefoot Swoosh. A slip-on construction with no traditional lacing completes the unconventional character of this release. Available in women's sizing.

Storytelling

The Air Rift was born in 1996 from a single observation: Kenyan long-distance runners, some of the fastest in the world, trained barefoot across the Great Rift Valley. Nike's design team set out to replicate that barefoot sensation — the split-toe mimicking the natural separation of the big toe, the minimal sole preserving ground feel. The "Kenya" colorway has appeared on every major Rift retro since, and its return on the Rift 2 in 2026 keeps that founding story intact. The shoe is named after the place. The colors are the flag. The concept is the training ground.

One of Nike's Most Unconventional Retros of Summer 2026

The Nike Rift 2 "Kenya" sits apart from everything else releasing this summer — there is no other slip-on, split-toe silhouette in Nike's current retro rotation. Its return via the SNKRS Verified program signals a genuine push to bring the Rift 2 back into the conversation, over two decades after its original debut.
