Technical Description

The Shigeyuki Mitsui x ASICS Gel-Lyte III 07 Remastered arrives in a Cream / Teal / Orange colorway built around the upgraded Remastered construction — the most premium version of the Gel-Lyte III platform, previously reserved exclusively for collaborations. The upper pairs soft cream suede on the toe box and lace panel with bright Teal netting and overlays, while orange Tiger Stripes run across the midsole in a direct nod to the silhouette's 1990 design language. The iconic split tongue carries Shigeyuki Mitsui's signature in print — the most personal design detail on the shoe. Inside, hand-drawn aquatic insole art picks up the teal and orange palette, tying the coral concept together with Japanese language wordplay: in Japanese, "35" and "coral" are phonetically similar, quietly marking the 35 years since the Gel-Lyte III's original release. Storytelling

The split tongue was an accident. In the late 1980s, Shigeyuki Mitsui was developing what was meant to be a standard performance running shoe when a comfort problem with the tongue refused to be resolved conventionally. Rather than engineer around it, he cut the tongue in two — eliminating lateral slippage entirely and accidentally creating the most distinctive design detail in ASICS history. The Gel-Lyte III launched in 1990 and went on to become one of the defining silhouettes of the 2010s sneaker collecting scene, propelled in large part by Ronnie Fieg's landmark collaborations through his then-role at David Z. and later via Kith. The 2023 Kith "Remastered" partnership was the first time the upgraded construction appeared in public. This 2026 release is the first time it becomes available as a standalone general release — and it arrives timed to something significant.
