The pair retains its famous suede T-toe and leather upper (at least on the black and white OG colors, of course).
The adidas stripes on the sides have been slightly widened, adding attitude, and the thicker midsole gives it that more modern first-look appeal. adidas has taken the opportunity to improve comfort with a full-length EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) sockliner and extra padding on the tongue and lining.

The addition of 3 updates to the original model: a padded tongue, a reinforced lining around the ankle and a thicker EVA sole adds significant comfort compared to a regular samba.
Where an OG pair feels very close to the ground, with the Samba XLG we feel a more pronounced response of the sole when walking, while being more elevated (but not too much so).
The padding seen above enhances the comfort of the top of the foot.
