Heritage-inspired lifestyle runner merging 2000s-era performance DNA with modern comfort. The New Balance 2010 "Tornado" balances dark greyscale tones with strategic blue accents, offering a refined take on the Boston brand's signature aesthetic.
Design & Inspiration
The New Balance 2010 debuted in May 2025 through a Kith collaboration celebrating the reopening of Kith Manhattan's flagship at 337 Lafayette Street. Described by New Balance as "a new premium classic," the silhouette draws inspiration from the brand's heritage 99X series, particularly the 2002R and 1906 models, reimagining them with contemporary proportions and a fresh ABZORB sole configuration. The 2010 quickly entered the "sneaker of the year" conversation thanks in part to a standout two-pair pack from Joe Freshgoods in November 2025, alongside the Kith debut collaboration.
The "Tornado" nickname holds significance in New Balance lore—most notably associated with Ronnie Fieg's exclusive 990v3 colorway from several years prior. This inline version skews far darker than the brand's hallmark Made in USA grey shade, creating a moody greyscale palette. The upper combines suede overlays, leather underlays, and breathable mesh across the base. Dark blue ABZORB pods in the heel break up the greyscale flow, paired with matching blue branding and outsole accents. The segmented ABZORB sole unit, a signature feature of several 2000s-era fan favorites, features more expansive proportions and becomes the centerpiece of this design—a diamond-knit mesh upper adds an updated twist on classic construction.
Comfort & Performance
The ABZORB midsole delivers all-day comfort through a combination of cushioning and compression resistance. ABZORB SBS cushioning at the heel and forefoot maximizes shock absorption, paired with a Stability Web for enhanced support. The rubber outsole provides reliable traction for versatile everyday wear, making the shoe functional for everything from casual streetwear to light activity.
